Yesterday's News

At the Techno Parade yesterday they had not too shabby weather to dance outside. Redbull drinks were flowing in cosmic quantities. It was a great success for the most part. Unfortunately at Bastillesome gangs showed up with a need for a fight-out, but it didn't trouble the party too much. Tip for next year: parents who bring their (small) children please protect their ears! You should know that the DJs are limited to 100db but most of them ignore the warning limit of 100db and go over quit easily, doubling the sound with every 6db more. Don't count on their common sense or on some kind of "noise-police" to have noise limits respected.

Guinguette: the anti-raindance

If you feel like going out of Paris in between the rainy spells, then why not go for a nostalgic trip to a Guinguette. Just 16 km south of Paris you can dance at the Seine riverside to the tunes of accordion music, enjoy a slice or two of the Auvergnate cuisine. So typical Parisian and yet a different world that is was almost forgotten until it was rediscovered as something hot and trendy. Maybe all the dancing and good food can not make the rain go away. But it will guaranteed get your spirits up and get you in shape for your summer slimsuit!

Every sunday in June: déjeuner Dansant with Guy Letur

La Guinguette Auvergnate
19 av de Choicy
94190 Villeneuve St Georges

How to get there:
by RER: Ligne D stop Villeneuve Triage
By bus: Take the bus 182 at the Porte de Choisy and stop at the terminus : Gare de Triage.

St Patrick's Day Party in Paris

The party may not be as big and wild as in the Anglophone world, but there's still enough to do to make a (would be) Irish heart beat faster.

Just around the corner from the freshly opened Le Quartier Bercy Square Hotel, at the Palais Omnisport Paris Bercy is the yearly event La Nuit de la St Patrick, music and dance from the Celtic world, March 15.

If you missed out on that one there's always the Irish Cultural Centre with a St Patrick's Day Concert of traditional music performed by Mary Shannon and Friends on March 17 at 19h30

Naughty Paris

The Crazy Horse is a Paris cabaret known for its stage show performed by nude female dancers.

The Paris Crazy Horse occupies a portion of a traditional Parisian building at 12 Avenue George V. It was opened by Alain Bernardin in 1951 and personally operated by him for decades until his death by suicide in 1994.

Along with its dancers, the Crazy Horse has also been a popular venue for other types of acts, including magicians, jugglers, and mimes. Charles Aznavour started in this cabaret, between two dance shows.

The Crazy Horse is releasing a new DVD featuring Arielle Dombasle dancing and singing. Arielle Dombasle performed at the famous cabaret on February 2007.

Tango in Paris

Remember my previous post about Tango?

France first discovered the lush sounds, sensual moves and emotion-charged impact of the tango in 1906 and instantly took to the dance...

One hundred years later, the French are still tango-crazy. The Paris Banlieues Tango Festival has focused for the past decade on unveiling the multiple facets of tango, its international influences and current trends and inspiration to audiences composed of tango aficionados as well as the merely curious. The multi-disciplinary festival will be celebrating its tenth anniversary in style with a comprehensive programme of events. Concerts, dances, dance and singing workshops, exhibitions, readings and food fiestas attended by a number of guests from all over the world will be held in various locations in Paris and around over a two-month period. Isn’t it time for your first tango in Paris?

Tektonik Dance To Go!

A new French phenomenon is getting some media coverage these days...TEKTONIK! If you guys think I'm talking about plates tectonics, you are as lost as I were.
Don't worry and don't feel like you were 90 years old, we all feel old compare to these kids!

So Tektonik is a dance; here is a little bit of history...
Everything started at the French club Metropolis. Dance and hardtech musics were coming to France - few years ago- , and a small community of people started liking it. Remember people with their dummies and their platform shoes? Oh yes!
Then, like many trends, it became more and more popular; from being danced in a club, the phenomenon went to the streets and now to medias.

If you go to clubs in France, you are going to see a lot of guys dancing like that. Basically, it's about moving your arms more than your legs.

People didn't know how to dance on dance music, now they do!

Ready for a Tango in Paris

Paris, which adopted tango with such fervour that it named a Metro stop in honour of its roots, Argentine, on the No. 1 line, is home to a great many tango instructors and musicians, including many from Argentina, and there are so many places to dance every night of the year, and so many courses, practice sessions, workshops and festivals that it can be daunting.
With so many places to dance and to learn in Paris it stands to reason that approach and style can vary widely. Try a few places to see what suits you. As for lessons, in some cases you may find that an instructor prefers to sign up couples only. If you are on your own, let the teacher know.
